"Preserving Time for Generations to Come"

Ants and Peonies, Day 67, 365 Photo Project, ~July 4, 2011 July 4, 2011

“The nature of This Flower is to bloom.”
– Alice Walker

Have you notice how ants seem to always come with peonies? They must have an important work to unleash the blossoms.  As I took several pictures of the peony buds, several ants were busy eating along the seams of the peony bud, but researching I discovered it is a myth that this is the ants role.  The ants are actually attracted to the sweet resin exuded on the flower buds, and they would open without their presence.  Just remember, before taking a several peony blossoms to anyone, shake out the presence of ants, first!
